2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: Real-World Test and Review

Overview:

Mitsubishi has taken a bold step into the ever growing compact-cross marketplace with the 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. To effectively test the 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross in a real-world situation, Connor and Kevin from Adventure Labs Media took the 4WD S-AWC crossover into the snowy mountains of Lake Tahoe, California.

Initial Thoughts:

My initial thoughts on the 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross are great. Right when I got into the vehicle, I was blown away at all the bells and whistles that come at this price point. Looking at the exterior, we were initially a bit confused at what to think. The accents, lines, and styling are aggressive but they quickly grew on us. The interior is well put together and ergonomically friendly with tasteful features that you’d expect in a higher price point vehicle. The high quality leather and accents quickly grabbed my attention and each feature seemed to be thoughtfully placed. This feels like a luxury vehicle!

Key Features:

There are a lot of features on the 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross that we really like. The leather seats with orange stitching and the carbon fiber accents give it a really high end look. The heads up display is also a nice feature, since you don’t have to take your eyes off the road. The heated front and rear seats are also a nice addition, especially up in the snow where the temperatures get chilly. The seven inch touch display is vibrant and easy to navigate, but a knob to adjust the volume would’ve been nice. The eclipse cross also comes with a full size spare, which you don’t see very often which can be useful in the situation you get a flat. Another great feature is the backup sensor camera and 360 sensors. When the vehicle is put into reverse, the 360 sensors and rear view camera show up on the display making it easy to park in tight areas. We were pleasantly surprised with all of the useful features packed into the 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross!

Performance:

The 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross sports a turbo’d 1.5 liter, four cylinder engine and pushes 152 horsepower and 182 foot pounds of torque. At lower RPMs, it feels a bit sluggish but at around 3000 RPMs, the turbo kicks in and the car feels much more responsive. In addition to that, it has very little turbo lag that it almost feels like a naturally aspirated motor. Now – to translate that into easier-to-understand language – the 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross feels like you receive more power when you really step on the gas and “rev” it out. In terms of gas mileage, the sticker shows 26 city and 29 highway. When we tested this, the eco mode showed that we were getting similar results at anywhere from 27 to 30 miles per gallon. We also had a chance to test the super all wheel control (S-AWC) in both snow and gravel. Overall it worked better than we thought and it gives you a lot of confidence for light off-road use. If you are going to be driving it in the snow often, we would recommend replacing the stock tires with a more aggressive all-terrain set of tread.

Warranty:

Mitsubishi vehicles come standard with a ten year, one hundred thousand mile powertrain warranty (best warranty in industry). I personally drive a 2018 Toyota Tacoma and am only covered for 5 years or sixty thousand miles. You do the math – Mitsubishi provides almost double the value in terms of warranty. Overall the value that comes with the 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is hard to beat and is worth considering for this factor alone. Safety:

In terms of safety, we were pleasantly surprised by all of the features you get. Mitsubishi quotes the 2019 Eclipse Cross to have “safety at every turn” because of their blind spot warning and lane change assist. It also comes standard with lane departure warnings and tons of alerts. For example, when we approached an icy road we actually got an alert on our dash warning us of potentially icy roads. Looking at the vehicle from the side, you may notice the side pillars are a little bit bigger than normal and that’s because they’re reinforced to keep you safer in an accident. If you have a family and/or safety is a large buying factor for you, the 2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross might be a wonderful option.

Price Point:

If you’re someone where safety is a priority for you when looking for a new vehicle, this might be one to look at. The 2019 eclipse cross SEL S-AWC package, the model that we’ve been testing, comes in at about $28,000, which is almost $10,000 less than its competitors. With all the bells and whistles this car comes with, we think it’s a great value for someone looking for something luxury-feeling that is not going to break the bank.

Final Thoughts:

Overall we just cannot get over how good of a value this car is. Between all of the features you get from the price point that comes with an amazing warranty, it’d be hard not to recommend this car to someone in the market for a crossover.
